The Academy presents the Earl Kauffman Award annually to recognize
outstanding individual contributions to the organization. This
year's honoree is Kathy Schulz.
was born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She attended Marquette
University in Milwaukee where she earned a degree in Journalism.
She began her journalistic career at the Post Crescent
newspaper in Appleton, WI.
Kathy left the work-force to raise her children, but during that time she
was very involved in Girl Scouting in New York and published a book about
and her husband Jack will celebrate their 50th
wedding anniversary in January
of 2012. They have three children, Elizabeth, Susan, and
Thomas, and are proud to have eight grandchildren. Kathy was quite
pleased that Susan
and Tom were able to attend the Kauffman award luncheon to share in
and Jack moved from Nyack, NY to Aiken's Cedar Creek development in 2001, which is when
they joined the Academy. Since then, Kathy has served the Academy in
many capacities, including being a member of the Board for six years. She is a long term and continuing member of the Curriculum
Committee, serving as its Chairperson for two years, and
is entering her fourth year as Chairperson of the Membership
Committee. She and Jack were instrumental in creating the Academy's
popular Fall Steeplechase social event, and has continued to organize
it annually. As a Cedar Creek resident, she acts as liaison with
Cedar Creek for the classes held there. She participated in last
years committee which updated our Bylaws and Operating Procedures.
And somehow, with all this, she still finds time to set up our
obviously has been, and continues to be, a great asset for the
Academy, and is well deserving of this, the highest honor the Academy
has to bestow.
